Scope of practice
Lori Overholser, Mental Health Counselor, LPC. This page is the long, legal description of the work. The short version is on Services. For an appointment, call 937-299-9060.
Professional overview
Lori Overholser is a licensed mental health counselor providing therapeutic services to adults, with a focus on women's emotional, relational, and life-transition needs. The practice emphasizes evidence-based treatment, trauma-informed care, and counseling that aims at autonomy and self-worth.
Sessions may be in person in Kettering, by telehealth video for clients who are in Ohio at the time of the appointment, or outdoors as a hiking session when that format fits the work.
Areas of clinical focus
Women's issues
Counseling related to identity development, life-role transitions, societal pressures, reproductive concerns, and emotional wellbeing across the lifespan.
Adjustment and life transitions
Support for people going through relocation, career shifts, family restructuring, or stress that arrived without warning.
Divorce, separation, and relationship dissolution
Guidance through distress, grief, coparenting, identity rebuilding, and life after a split.
Empowerment and self-esteem
Strength-based work on autonomy, assertiveness, boundary-setting, and personal confidence.
Bereavement and loss
Grief counseling for death, ambiguous loss, or major change that involves mourning.
Relationship problems
Communication, conflict patterns, attachment, emotional distance, and relational decision-making. This is individual counseling, not a legal service.
Abuse and trauma recovery
Trauma-informed care for survivors of emotional, physical, sexual, or psychological abuse, with emphasis on safety, stabilization, and regaining a sense of agency.
Therapeutic modalities
Cognitive behavioral therapy
Working with unhelpful thoughts and the behaviors that follow them.
Person-centered therapy
A nonjudgmental, supportive room for self-directed change.
Trauma-informed care
Safety, choice, and pace for people who have survived trauma.
Mindfulness-based interventions
Attention to the present, used where it helps with regulation.
Strengths-based counseling
Naming and using capacities you already have.
Jungian and Rogerian principles
Warmth, safety, and a serious look at how the past shows up today as unwanted thoughts and behaviors. Making the unconscious more available to you, without turning the hour into a lecture.
